牛飯 <Gyuumeshi>
Gyuumeshi again from Matsuya. After having broken my previous karaoke record of 6 hours by 2 hours, the thought of cooking food was not exactly a joyful one. With their gyuumeshi campaign still going on for another 4 days, I think I’ll go there maybe one or two more times.

April 18, 2010豚肉とにら、もやしの炒め物 <Butaniku to nira, moyashi no itamemono>
I made this again… because I had some of the nira left from the previous time. I regretfully have to admit that I don’t know any other recipes with nira so I ended up making it again…
No picture.

April 18, 2010広島焼き <Hiroshimayaki>
We went to this food court and some place was selling okonomiyaki. It turned out to be Hiroshima style okonomiyaki, which I didn’t expect to find here.
Cheap and good, but I still like Osaka style better.
It doesn’t look that much different when it’s completely covered with the toppings like okonomiyaki sauce and mayonaise but the way of making them is completely different. No picture, but it looked like in these pictures.

Length between perforated tear lines: No complaints – 4/5
Strength: Excellent – 4/5
total score: 16/20
rolls/weeks ratio: 32/30

April 15, 2010てんぷら + 五月菜 <tenpura + gogatsuna>
Some 50% discounted tenpura mix reheated in my toaster oven, still great. It consisted of shrimp, sweet potato, lotus root, squid, eggplant, shungiku and pumpkin.
There is not much I can find about gogatsuna. I’m not even sure it’s “gogatsuna” as it could also be read as “satsukina”. The word is not even in the dictionary.

Transcending transmissions
April 13, 2010
When I saw this bike parked at our university, I made a O_O face. My first thought was: “Is this supposed to be an improvement over conventional bicycles or is it just a piece of antique?”. Another thought was: “I need to ride this”. Unfortunately, it was locked.
I’d never seen or heard of anything else used for transmission on bicycles other than chains and sprockets.

Here’s a different, maybe even more interesting variant, one that I’ve yet to find: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaft-driven_bicycle

April 13, 2010牛飯 + 紅菜(花) <Gyuumeshi + Benina(bana)>(purple-stem mustard)
It was the first day of this gyuumeshi discount campaign at Matsuya, one of the fast food chains here, and I decided to get some as take-out. Good as always, especially since they kept the meat and sauce and the rice apart. It makes it so much harder to eat rice with chopsticks when it no longer possesses its cohesive properties because of the mixing with the sauce.
It was my first time eating benina. And it was very purple.

29-03 広島焼き<Hiroshimayaki> (Hiroshima) – I like the Osaka variety better.

06-04 豚肉とにら、もやしの炒め物 <Butaniku to nira, moyashi no itamemono> -pic- – Just some random recipe I took that looked easy to make. It’s Ok. Consists of nira , bean sprouts and thinly sliced pork.
